- Indian Poultry Industry is on rise with modern techniques and changing from live bird to fresh chilled and frozen bird.
- The poultry sector with a total output value exceeding USD 5.3 billion (INR 225) produced around 2.3 million tons of chicken in 2007.
- Increasing integration with stress on feeding and management to processing, packaging and cold chain management are the need of the industry.
- The annual per capita avaibility of eggs has quadrupled from 10 to 42 between 1970 to 2007 while the corresponding increase in chicken consumption has been faster from 146 gms to 1.9Kgs.
- The layer segment i.e. table eggs, processed eggs and branded eggs are growing considerably with 20% growth in processed eggs and 40-50% growth per annum in branded eggs.
- With increased demand of branded eggs, demand for egg graders, labeling machines and egg processing machine and other latest technology has increased in India.
- The layer segment size is estimated at around USD 2.4 billion, of which 5% is exported.
- There has been increase in value of exports in last decade from USD 2.6 million to USD 75 million.
- The key export destinations for India are Oman, Kuwait, UAE, Angola, Qatar and Bahrain which account for more than 80% of the export volume.
